The Nest, in cooperation with the Centrul Cultural German Cluj-Napoca invite you to the OPEN MIC, a multilingual poetry slam contest, supported by Com’ON Cluj-Napoca. It doesn’t matter if you write in Romanian, Hungarian or English, you are welcome to show what you have to say.
Slam poetry is a modern way of performing poetry, using also rap and stand-up comedy elements. The texts tackle a wide range of topics, often approaching current issues or happenings. These events generate an interaction between the slammer and the public, which is more intense than at a classic literary reading. It is not all about the text, but also the performance and the interaction with the public is important.
Initially, poetry slam events were organised by the slammers themselves, who were performing for a few minutes and afterwards evaluating one another. Meanwhile the format has evolved and during the contest evenings, called also OPEN MICs, anyone can have the mic and get involved.
Rules of the slam poetry competition:
1. All the participants need to prepare two OWN texts. Five participants will be selected by the jury for the final round, where they will have the possibility to present the second text they’ve prepared. The jury will decide on the three winners. There is no topic given and no need to memorise the texts, they can also be read.
2. Each participant is allowed 3 minutes 15 seconds (going over the limit means penalty points).
3. Sign up with a message on the facebook page THE Nest, writing us a few words about you, your email address and tell us in which language you will perform.
4. The jury has 5 members, 3 are named by the organizers and 2 selected out of the audience. The scores vary from 1 to 10, the best and the lowest scores won’t be considered when calculating the final average score.
