Trainspotting – “Tourist into the childhood”
This film is a myth that based an entire subculture which in turn has become a culture that has validated underground generations one by one, without defying neither fervent youngsters nor veterans retired.
Renton, Spud, Sickboy, and Tommy think they are a super-functional micro-society at the grassroots level of the pleasure pyramid, managing to survive as accomplices when faced with extreme situations of life such as robbery, sex with a minor next to his parents (I would have said that scene belonged to Guy Maddin) alongside emotional events like shame, betrayal, class struggle, addiction, detoxification, extremism. In Traumaland, I think the extremes work as landmarks, in the middle being only an inconsistent mix up, an urban gossip that you can only compare to critically because what’s common, simple, conventional, does not resist ecstasy or depression and faced with the two aesthetic poles , everything becomes an appearance of waxed figures that only play with copies of the beautiful / grotesque / sublime and the rest of the superlatives.
